Spiritual Maturity

Booklet No. 7 (Purple) – Spiritual Maturity

In this programme we consider some of the most significant qualities that demonstrate a person is developing, or moving in, spiritual maturity.

Firstly we look at the psychological elements, as identified by Abraham Maslow,  and how we should interpret these from a spiritual point of view:-

  1. Our Physiological Needs
  2. Our Security and Safety Needs
  3. Our Love and Belonging Needs
  4. Our Esteem Needs
  5. Self-Actualisation

Secondly we look at some of the more practical ways in which Spiritual Maturity will be demonstrated in the lives of individual people.  This is adapted from the work of Stephen R. Covey in his book “First Things First” (1994) Published by Simon & Schuster.

  1. Know How to Live
  2. Know How to Love
  3. Know How to Learn
  4. Know How to Lead
  5. Know How to Leave

This programme is designed to be the basis for discussion and exploration to be undertaken by a small group of people, or a family, who wish to develop their understanding of the Christian faith.

It is the final booklet in the series “Moving Towards Maturity”,  so we suggest that plenty of time is allowed to explore each step thoroughly before moving on to the next.

It is a Bible-based programme in which we encourage each participant to look up, pray through, discuss together, explore, memorise and apply the verses at each stage.  It is not a programme which should simply be read, or taught to passive listeners.

Each group may wish to have additional input occasionally from someone who is more experienced in the Christian faith, but that should never be a substitute for personal exploration and discovery, and should not change the format of the group.

Spiritual Maturity can only be achieved, and/or maintained, through a personal on-going relationship with the living Lord Jesus Christ.
